EC number: 215-185-5 | CAS number: 1310-73-2
No reliable studies are available for acute toxicity to NaOH. According to the REACH Regulation, acute toxicity testing does not generally need to be conducted if the substance is classified as corrosive to the skin (column 2 adaptation, Annex VIII). NaOH is a corrosive substance and for this reason there is no need for further acute toxicity testing (EU RAR, 2007; section 220.127.116.11.3, page 65).
No classification is needed since no reliable studies are available and studies do not need to be generated. Furthermore, the substance is not expected to be systemically available and the effects are expected to be due to pH changes.
