Description of key information

A preliminary flammability screening test was performed by igniting a loosely-packed linear pile of terephthalic acid (TPA). Combustion self-extinguished after 218 seconds and without propagating 200 mm along the pile. According to the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, terephthalic acid is therefore not classified as a readily combustible solid of Division 4.1 and further flammability testing is not required.
