Description of key information

Data waived - Auto flammability is not applicable to massive nickel metal, as reported in the European Union Risk Assessment for Nickel (2008-2009) and according the REACH Annex VII. However, very finely divided metal in the fully reduced state can smoulder in the presence of oxygen or air and that flammability “depends on particle size and blockage by oxidized outer layer” (for flammability endpoint). However, no classification was proposed for flammability. In addition, nickel metal was determined to be non-flammable based on the Harlan study (see Flammability endpoint in the “Overview of physico-chemical properties” table above and IUCLID section 4.13).
