Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No reliable toxicity data to sediment organisms are available for Ti metal. A read-across approach with upgraded ilmenites and TiO2 is used. Reliable data are available for both freshwater and marine sediments. Results for chronic toxicity of upgraded ilmenite slags (>80% TiO2) to Hyalella azteca in freshwater sediment did not show toxicity up to 10% or 100000 mg/kg dw (ARCADIS, 2008), corresponding to 60000 mg Ti/kg dw. Titanium Dioxide exhibited no effect up to 14989 mg/kg dw (equivalent to 8993 mg Ti/kg dw) after 10 days exposure via dried sediment to the marine amphipod Corophium volutator (Hudson, 2007).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 or LC50 for freshwater sediment:
60 000 mg/kg sediment dw
EC50 or LC50 for marine water sediment:
8 993 mg/kg sediment dw
EC10, LC10 or NOEC for freshwater sediment:
60 000 mg/kg sediment dw
