Description of key information

A relevant exposure of soil microorganisms is not expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In order to assess the effects of methyl methacrylate on terrestrial organisms, a test on the respiration inhibition of natural soil micro-flora is available. After two days incubation it appeared to be a dose-related inhibition of respiration. But at the end of an exposure duration of 28 days even for the highest concentration of 1,000 mg/kg this effect was no longer significant. Furthermore, the substance shows a low adsorptive (log Koc = 0.94 – 1.86) as well as a bioaccumulative (log Pow = 1.38) potential.

In conclusion, a relevant distribution into soil and a considerable exposure of soil microorganisms is not expected. Methyl methacrylate is not toxic to soil microorganisms.
