Description of key information

In a 7-day exposure study with red fescue grass, the IC50 for germination was 500.8 mg NaCl/kg soil dw. In a 7-day exposure study with Kentucky bluegrass the NOEC for stem growth was 243 mg NaCl/kg soil dw.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Short-term EC50 or LC50 for terrestrial plants:
500.8 mg/kg soil dw
Long-term EC10, LC10 or NOEC for terrestrial plants:
243 mg/kg soil dw

Additional information

In one study, evaluated as a Klimish score 2, toxicity of sodium chloride toward four species of terrestrial macrophytes was examined in regard to germination and stem growth. The 7-day IC50 for seed germination ranged between 500 and 1890 mg/kg dw soil for the various plant species, and the 7-day NOEC for stem growth ranged between 243 and 360 mg/kg dw for the various plant species.
