Description of key information

Vinyl laurate did not exhibit any effect on algae up the limit of water solubility in an acute test under the conditions used.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The influence of Vinyl laurate on the growth of the freshwater green algae Desmodesmus subspicatus was assessed in a static limit test. The 72-hour NOEC was determined to be at least 0.25 mg test item/L (nominal). The NOEC might even be higher than this concentration, but concentrations in excess of 0.25 mg test item/L and thus, the limit of solubility, have not been tested according to the recommendations of the test guidelines. The 72‑hour LOEC, the 72-hour ErC50 and the 72-hour EyC50 were clearly higher than the only test concentration of nominal 0.25 mg test item/L. These values could not be quantified due to the absence of toxicity of Vinyl laurate up to the only test concentration of nominal 0.25 mg test item/L, the concentration representing the limit of solubility.
