Description of key information

Ethyl acrylate is expected to be biodegradable in soil.

On the basis of the water solubility and the low to very low sorption, movement of ethyl acrylate in soil must be expected.

With a half life in water at pH11 of 182 hours, ethyl acrylate may slowly hydrolyse in soil, especially in alkaline soils. This is supported by data from the structurally related 2-ethylhexyl acrylate.

With consideration of the potential degradability in an aquatic medium, no notable geoaccumulation is to be expected for this reason. This estimation is supported by the finding that the test substance is readily biodegradable under aerobic laboratory conditions.
