Description of key information

Only one reliable study (Klimisch 2) on the biota-to-soil-accumulation factor (BSAF) of vanadium in terrestrial plants is available, reporting BSAF values lower than 0.1 for Lactuca sativa, Solanum tuberosum and Lolium perenne grown in a sandy or loamy soil amended with V2O5up to 500 mg V/kg dw (Vangheluwe et al., 2003). The absence of vanadium accumulation in terrestrial plants (BSAF << 1) is also supported by data for Brassica oleracea and Glycine max grown in soils amended with VOSO4and NH4VO3, respectively (Kaplan et al., 1990; Wang and Liu, 1999). Data on the bioaccumulation of vanadium in terrestrial invertebrates are not available.
