Additional information
Key study
The 48-hr-acute toxicity of trimethylolpropane to Daphnia magna was studied under static conditions. Daphnids were exposed to the substance at nominal concentrations of 5,000; 7,500; 10,000; 15,000, 20,000, 25,000; 40,000 mg/L. Immobilization was observed at 24 and 48h. The 48-hour EC50 was 13,000 mg/L (based on nominal concentrations).
This study is classified as acceptable and satisfies the guideline requirements for an acute toxicity study with freshwater invertebrates. (Reliablity 2)

Supporting studies
The 48-hr-acute toxicity of trimethylolpropane to Daphnia magna was studied under static conditions. Daphnids were exposed to the substance at measured concentrations of < 10 mg and 102 mg/L for 48 hours. Immobilization was observed at 24 and 48 hours. The 48-hour EC0 was >= 102 mg/L. An EC50 > 102 mg/L, based on mean measured concentrations may be derived from this result . (Reliablity 2)
Reference: Caspers & Müller, 1994
The acute toxicity of trimethylolpropane to the harpacticoid Nitocra spinipes was determined in a static test with an exposure duration of 96 h. No adjustment of pH was performed. The animals were not fed during exposure. Analytical monitoring was not performed.
The resulting LC50 (96 h) is greater than 1000 mg/L based on nominal concentrations.
As only a short abstract is available, the reliablity may not be assessed.

The 24-hr-acute toxicity of trimethylolpropane to Daphnia magna was studied under conditions, which were not reported. The OECD-Guideline used is not further specified in the SIDS. The 24-hour EC0 and EC50 were > 1000 mg/L. (Reliablity not assignable)
As only a short abstract is available, the reliablity may not be assessed.
