Description of key information

A Rate constant (for indirect photolysis) of  0.0000065 m³/(molecule*sec) is reported resulting in a DT50 of 59 hours. This value represents the worst case value out of the available DT50 values between 24 and 59 hours.

Additional information

In two publications data on the phototransformation in air of cumene is presented in the EU-RAR (2001) in section 3.1.1.2.1. Cumene is reported to have reaction rates of 6.14 -7.8 10 -12 [cm3 molec-1 s-1] and a DT50 of 1 -2.4 days by Lloyd et al. (1976).

In the publication of Atkinson (1990) the current knowledge of the gas-phase reactions occurring in the troposphere for alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, oxygenates and aromatic hydrocarbons and their photooxidation products is reviewed, and areas of uncertainty identified. A Rate constant (for indirect photolysis) of 0.0000000000065 cm³/(molecule*sec) has been reported for cumene. A DT50 of 59 hours can be calculated from this value. As a worst case assumption the longest DT50 of 59 hours value is selected as key value for the chemical safety assessment.
