Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No experimental data on 2 -ethylhexyl acrylate are available but data on the structural analogue methyl acrylate are included.

A study on the toxicity of a range of concentrations of methyl acrylate towards soil micro-flora was conducted according to OECD TG 217. The EC50 for soil micro-flora based on effects on carbon cycle was determined to be greater than 1000 mg/kg dry mass soil.

Furthermore, following the rules set out in the integrated testing strategy (ITS) detailed insection R.7.11.6., Chapter R.7c of the ECHA Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment (version 3.0, June 2017) the Equilibrium Partitioning Method strategy has been applied to soil risk assessment. Therefore, a “soil hazard category” was assigned to 2-EHA. 2-EHA has a log Kow < 5, is readily biodegradable and is not very toxic to aquatic organisms: 2-EHA falls therefore within the scheme of “Hazard category 1”, which states that only the EPM method is required for the screening assessment. When PEC/PNECscreen is inferior to 1, then “no toxicity testing for soil organisms need to be done”, as stated in the R.7c Guidance. As one relevant terrestrial toxicity datum is available for derivation of a PNECsoil, the RCRs derived with both the EPM method and the available toxicity datum to soil microorganisms are inferior to 1 for the terrestrial compartment. Therefore, following the rules set out insection R.7.11.6., Chapter R.7c of the ECHA Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment (version 3.0, June 2017), and in accordance with the REACh regulation EC 1907/2006 annexes IX and X, section 9.4, column 2, no additional testing on terrestrial organism is needed.
