Description of key information

A non-guideline study evaluated the alpha-2u-globulin levels in kidneys from rats exposed to isopropanol (IPA) by inhalation for 9 days.  A derived limit is not applicable to this study.  Inhalational IPA exposure at concentrations up to 10000 ppm had no effects on alpha2u-globulin levels or distribution in rats.

Additional information

The effect of inhalational isopropanol (IPA) exposure on rat alpha-2u-globuin was evaluated in a non-Guideline study (Fowler and Martin, 1994). Kidney samples (5/sex/dose) were obtained from a 9-day inhalation toxicity study of IPA in Fischer 344 rats involving IPA exposures of 0, 5000, or 10000 ppm. Samples were assessed for alpha-2u-globulin levels by immunohistochemistry. There were no substantive differences in the intensity or distribution of alpha-2u-globulin in the kidneys of the IPA-exposed male rats compared to controls. There was no alpha-2u-globulin reactivity found in the female rat kidneys.
