Experimental data for Bis(2-ethylhexyl) adipate (CAS 103-23-1, DEHA) are available investigating the short-term toxicity to fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae. No effects on fish, aquatic invertebrates or algae were observed up to the limit of water solubility (0.0032 mg/L). With high probability DEHA is acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms.
DEHA did not cause inhibition of respiration in a study according to EU method C.11 with activated sludge microorganisms as inoculum (NOEC (3 h) > 350 mg/L). Thus, the overall potential to cause inhibition of activated sludge microorganisms is low and significant inhibition of degradation processes in sewage treatment plants is not to be expected.
Experimental data for DEHA are available investigating the long-term toxicity to algae and invertebarates. No effects on survival and reproduction up to the solubility of the substance in water were observed for both algae and invertebrates. The available data indicate that long-term toxicity to aquatic organisms in the range of its water solubility is not to be expected.
