Additional information

The reliable key study (BASF, 1994) on the chronic toxicity of sodium dithionite used the cladoceran Daphnia magna as test species. The reported nominal 21d-NOEC (endpoint: reproduction rate and mortality) was ≥10 mg Na2S2O4/L, which corresponds to ≥3.68 mg S/L or ≥9.19 mg SO32-/L. Physicochemical properties of the test media were monitored during the test period, and both pH (7.5-8.2) and oxygen content (7.8-15.5 mg/L) met the validity criteria set for this type of test.
