Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

There are no data on sensitising effects of silicocalcium. Therefore the read-across approach from related compounds is used.

The surface of silicocalcium is composed mainly of silicon and calcium rich oxides. Silicon is released from CaSi at similar or somewhat lower levels than from amorphous silicon dioxide. The released silicon species from silica and silicates, as well as from calcium silicon, is silicic acid.

No sensitisation by silica or silicates (including calcium and aluminium silicates), which are used e. g. in cosmetics, has bee found. The weight-of evidence suggests that CaSi is not sensitising.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
There were no animal or human data on skin sensitisation with silicocalcium. Therefore, the weight of evidence approach is utilised in which the information on the toxicity of related compounds are used.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Additional information:

see above

Justification for classification or non-classification

Conclusion: Silicocalcium is not sensitising to skin or respiratory system. No further tests are suggested.
