Description of key information

The substance has very poor solubility in water. The concentrations of various metals dissolving from the substance were assessed by ICP-MS and found to be: Mg  ≤0.687 mg/L; Al ≤0.960 mg/L ; Si ≤2.28 mg/L ; Ca ≤2.66 mg/L ; Mn ≤0.329 mg/L ; Ba  ≤0.0217 mg/L, OECD 105, EU Method A.6, Walker (2010). For risk assessment purposes the key value used for safery assessment is set at 0.33 mg/L (baseed on mg Mn/L).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
0.33 mg/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The water solubility of the test substance was determined in a study which was conducted under GLP conditions and in accordance with the standardised guidelines OECD 105 and EU Method A.6, using the flask method. The loading rate was approximately 1.0 g test substance: 500 mL water. This loading rate was chosen to ensure saturation of each of the analytes in the test due to the complex nature of the substance. Analysis was carried out using ICP-MS, for total Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Mn and Ba. Under the conditions of the study the water solubility of each analyte was determined to be less than or equal to 0.68, 0.96, 2.28, 2.66, 0.329 and 0.022 mg/L for Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Mn and Ba, respectively at a pH of between 6.3 and 8.3 and a temperature of 20 °C.

Since the study was conducted under GLP conditions and to valid guidelines the study has been assigned a reliability score of 1 in line with the criteria of Klimisch (1997).
