In a study performed according to OECD TG111 the half lifes at different pH's were:

2.83 days at pH 4 at 25 degrees C

3.66 days at pH 7 at 25 degrees C

2.22 days at pH 9 at 25 degrees C

At these pH's the main result of the abiotic hydrolysis was 2,3 -dihydroxypropylmethacrylate (EINECS 227 -642 -6)

In a second study the half lifes were:

1.9 days at pH 3 at 25 degrees C

4.1 days at pH 7 at 25 degrees C

0.054 days at pH 11 at 25 degrees C

At pH 3 and 7 the main degradation product was 2,3 -dihydroxypropyl methacrylate (EINECS 227 -642 -6), i.e opening of the epoxide-ring.

At pH 11 the main degradation product was the saponification of the ester (methacrylic acid and glycidol) (EINECS 201 -204 -4) and 209 -128 -3)
