A flash point value of 86.5°C at 1013 hPa was determined for octan-1-ol with the use of non-equilibrium closed-cup method in accordance with ASTM-D93. The result is considered to be reliable and is selected as key study.
It is supported by a value of 81°C, taken from a source of hazard reference data (the online International Chemical Safety Cards of WHO IPCS).
A flash point value of 86.5°C and boiling point of 194°C indicate that octan-1-ol should not be classified for flammability in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
Discussion of trends in the Category of C6-24 linear and essentially-linear aliphatic alcohols:
The flash point of Category substances follow a predictable trend of increasing flash point temperature with increasing chain length together with increasing boiling point and decreasing vapour pressure.
