Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
General advice:
Immediately remove contaminated clothing. If the patient is likely to become unconscious, place and
transport in stable sideways position (recovery position). First aid personnel should pay attention to
their own safety. Obtain medical attention.
If inhaled:
Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air. Immediate medical attention required.
On skin contact:
Immediately wash thoroughly with plenty of water, apply sterile dressings, consult a skin specialist.
On contact with eyes:
Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open,
consult an eye specialist.
On ingestion:
Rinse mouth and then drink plenty of water. Immediate medical attention required. Do not induce
vomiting unless told to by a poison control center or doctor.
Note to physician:
Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), no known specific
antidote. Pulmonary odema prophylaxis. Inhale corticosteroid dose aerosol.
Fire-fighting measures
Suitable extinguishing media:
water spray, dry extinguishing media, foam, carbon dioxide
Specific hazards:
hydrogen chloride, carbonyl chloride
The substances/groups of substances mentioned can be released in case of fire.
Special protective equipment:
Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing.
Further information:
The degree of risk is governed by the burning substance and the fire conditions. Dispose of fire debris
and contaminated extinguishing water in accordance with official regulations.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions:
Personal protection: wear a tightly closed chemical protection suit and a self-contained breathing
apparatus.
Environmental precautions:
Do not discharge into drains/surface waters/groundwater. Discharge into the environment must be
avoided.
Methods for cleaning up or taking up:
For small amounts: Pick up with suitable absorbent material. Dispose of absorbed material in
accordance with regulations.
For large amounts: Pump off product.
Handling and storage
Handling
Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas. Refill and handle product only in closed system.
Protect against heat. Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing.
Protection against fire and explosion:
Prevent electrostatic charge - sources of ignition should be kept well clear - fire extinguishers should
be kept handy. Vapours may form explosive mixture with air.
Storage
Further information on storage conditions: Keep container tightly closed and in a well-ventilated place.
Protect against moisture. Protect against heat.

Personal protective equipment
Respiratory protection:
Self-contained breathing apparatus.
Hand protection:
Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374)
Suitable materials also with prolonged, direct contact (Recommended: Protective index 6,
corresponding > 480 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374):
fluoroelastomer (FKM) - 0.7 mm coating thickness
Supplementary note: The specifications are based on own tests, literature data and information of
glove manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g.
temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in practice
may be much shorter than the determined permeation time.
Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.
Eye protection:
Tightly fitting safety goggles (splash goggles) (f.e. EN 166)
Body protection:
Body protection must be chosen depending on activity and possible exposure, e.g. apron, protecting
boots, chemical-protection suit (according to DIN-EN 465).
General safety and hygiene measures:
Wearing of closed work clothing is required additionally to the stated personal protection equipment.
