Description of key information

One GLP study (Noack, 1992) showed a 72h-ErC50 of 0.033 mg/L and a 72h-ErC10 of 0.007 mg/L for Scenedesmus subspicatus.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
0.033 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.007 mg/L

Additional information

Algae are very sensitive to MCA. Which is not surprising as MCA is a known herbicide.

Two valid studies are available for aquatic algae. One GLP study (Noack, 1992) showed a 72h-ErC50 of 0.033 mg/L and a 72h-ErC10 of 0.007 mg/L for Scenedesmus subspicatus. These results are supported by the study performed by Kuehn et al. (1990) where an EbC50 of 0.028 mg/L and an EbC10 of 0.007 mg/L were found.
