Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no study available
Additional information:

The respiratory sensitization potential of titanium tetrachloride cannot be assessed due to the irritating effects in the respiratory tract.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Due to the pronounced skin corrosivity of titanium tetrachloride no data valid data for the classification of its sensitising potential is available. No reports on sensitisation of humans after occupational exposure are available. On the contrary titanium dioxide which would be the relevant substance after hydrolysis does not show sensitising properties. Therefore titanium tetrachloride is deemed not to be a sensitiser and correspondingly does not need to be classified according to CLP/GHS.
