Description of key information

In accordance with the column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the study does not need to be conducted if the substance possesses explosive properties.
Moreover, according to the ECHA Guidance on the application of CLP criteria §2.8.3, this property is not relevant for organic peroxides as they should not be considered for classification as flammable solids (flammability is an intrinsic hazard in organic peroxide class).
Concerning pyrophoricity and contact with water, in accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the studies don't need to be performed. Based on the molecular structure as well as experience in handling and use, the substance has no pyrophoric properties and has no water reactive properties.

Additional information

The determination of the flammability of dibenzoyl peroxide has been waived according to the column 2 of REACH Annex VII and according to the ECHA Guidance on the application of CLP criteria.

Nevertheless, some data coming from literature indicate that the substance would be highly flammable.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Dibenzoyl peroxide possesses explosive properties so the classification "highly flammable" has been waived.
