Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short description of key information on bioaccumulation potential result:
HFC 134a is rapidly absorbed and equilibrated in tissues after inhalation and is eliminated from the blood in expired air with a half-life of a few minutes. Metabolism to Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) occurs only in minor amounts.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The requirements of REACH are to provide an assessment of the toxicokinetic behaviour of the susbstance to the extent that can be derived from the relevant available information.

Studies in experimental animals and in human voluteers have shown that 1,1,1,2 -Tetrafluoroethane (HFC 134a) is rapidly absorbed and equilibrated in tissues after inhalation and is eliminated from the blood in expired air with a half-life of a few minutes. Metabolism to trifluoroacetic acid occurs in only minor amounts.
