Description of key information

According to the REACH guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment (chapter R7.A), testing on explosive properties is not required for gases.

1,1,1,2 -Tetrafluoroethane (HFC 134a) does not contain chemical groups associated with explosive properties, and in accordance with 7.11 column 2 of REACH Annex VII a study is not required. Additionally, according to the REACH guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment (chapter R7.A), testing on explosive properties is not required for gases.

Justification for classification or non-classification

As the study on explosive properties does not need to be conducted, classification for explosive properties is not applicable according to EU Directive 67/548/EEC and EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures, (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
