Principles of method if other than guideline:
Wilhelmy plate method is used to measure the surface tension using a stndardized plate with a plate tensiometer. The plate is moved towards the surface until the meniscus connects with it. The surface tension is calculated from the resulting force. Due to uncertain wetting behaviour, the plate can only be used for interfaces under certain limitations.

A range of 19 to 22 mN/m at 25°C covers all possible grades within this substance description if measured with the agreed method. Using this method ExxonMobil Chemical (2010) determined the surface tension to be 20.7 mN/m at 25°C, demonstrating that the measured value falls within borderline values.
