other: The test item started to decompose at at 330°C and the decomposition product started boiling at 398°C.

The DSC-measurement under nitrogen indicates an endothermic effect in the temperature range 90 -140 °C (onset 117 °C). The test item started melting. A second endothermic effect was observed in the temperature range 350 -480 °C due to decomposition and boiling of the substance. A black residue remained at the end of the test after cooling in the crucible. Approx. 86 % of the material had volatilized from the crucible during the test. Measurements of the capillary method confirmed the results.

Conclusions:
As the substance started decomposing at approximately 330 °C before boiling, no boiling point could be determined.

Description of key information

The substances `Fatty acids, C16-18, zinc salts´ and `Zinc dimyristate´(C14), have melting points of 121 °C and an melting range between 127.7 - 136.6° °C (peak 133.7 °C) (see supporting robust study summaries section 4.2 melting point), respectively and starts decomposing at approximately 330 °C and > 300 °C, respectively before boiling, therefore no boiling point could be determined. A similar behaviour is assumed for `Fatty acids, C14-18 and C16-18-unsatd., zinc salts´ (melting point 101 °C) as the melting points of the substances are similar.
