Description of key information

1,1,1-trifluoroethane is a gas at room temperature.  In 4-hour  inhalation exposures, there was no mortality or significant signs of toxicity even with exposures up to 2030000 mg/l (591000 ppm).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Acute toxicity: via inhalation route

Endpoint conclusion
Value:
2 030 000 mg/m³ air

Additional information

Rats were exposed for 4 -hours to levels upto 2030000mg/m3. There was no mortality and they were no significant signs of toxicity. The potential of 1,1,1 -trifluoroethane to sensitize the heart to adrenalin was evaluated in the dog. The no effect level was 860000 mg/m3 (250000 ppm) and the threshold for an effect (cardiac arrhythmia) was 1040000 mg/m3 (300000 ppm).
