Acute tests on all three trophic levels, as well as a chronic test on toxicity to invertetrates, were performed to examine the aquatic toxicity of 2,2-Dimethlypropane-1,3-diol. Algae and Daphnia magna turned out to be the most sensitive species revealing an ErC50 (72h) and an EC50 (48h) >500 mg/L, respectively. The actue toxicity test with fish revealed an LC50 (96h) >10000 mg/L and in a long-term study with aquatic invertebrate Daphnia magna a NOEC (21d) of 1000 mg/L was found.
Thus, 2,2-Dimethlypropane-1,3-diol is considered acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms and not chronic toxic in algae and Daphnia magna.
