Description of key information

Based on the information provided in the Roquette Safety Data Sheet for Glucidex IT 33 W (dried glucose syrup) and calculated based on the information provided in the Leatherhead Food R.A. Scientific & Technical Surveys, it is scientifically reasonable to expect the solubility to be > 10000 mg/L.  Based on this information, it is also scientifically reasonable to predict that the n-octanol/water partition coefficient (log Kow) will be less than -2.  Thus, according to section 1 of REACh (Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006) Annex XI, the n-octanol/water partition coefficient (required in Annex VII section 7.8) does not need to be conducted.

There was no information concerning the dissociation constant of wheat glucose syrups having a DE (dextrose equivalent) of at least 20, and a glucose content of less than 80%.

Mazzobre et al. (2005) determined the partition coefficient of D-glucose (CASRN 50-99-7) by a shake-flask method. The amount of sugar in the organic phase was determined by an enzymatic method. The experimental log Pow was determined to be -2.84 ± 0.03 at 5ºC and -2.82 ± 0.04 at 20ºC. Based on this information, it is scientifically reasonable to predict that the partition coefficient of wheat glucose syrup is expected to be less than -2.
