General Information

Name:
Spent liquor from semi-chemical pulping
Implementation:
EU
Remarks:
No classification is suggested according to the test results from newly conducted GLP OECD guideline compliant studies on two semi-chemical pulping liquors (SCP liquors).
Acute oral toxicity was studied by a newly conducted GLP OECD guideline compliant study and was discovered negative (LD50 > 5000 mg/kg).
Only part of the physico-chemical parameters that derive classification has been newly tested for SCP liquor. The results indicate that SCP liquor has no explosive, flammable or pyrophoric properties nor contains self-reactive or self-heating substances. The waivers of the non-tested properties are presented with the comparative end-point summaries.
Aquatic acute toxicity of SCP liquor has been newly studied by GLP OECD guideline compliant test methods. The results do not entail classification of environmental hazard. The substance is regarded as readily biodegradable and aquatic acute toxicity exceeds the limit of 100 mg/l for classification according to EC50 values.
A precautionary classification for skin irritation is given based on expected concentrations of some identified main ingredients (sodium formate and oxalate) of SCP liquor.
