DEMETRA (REACH Guidance, Chapter R.7C) predicts the substance's acute oral LD50 for 14 day exposures in Bob White quail to be > maximum of the database with a minimum value of 7,192 mg/kg bw and a maximum value of 23,770 mg/kg bw. Thus, the substance is not expected to be acutely toxic in avians. This is consistent with mammalian results indicating a lack of acute toxicity. The substance is expected to a have a low potential for bioaccumulation based on its physical/chemical properties of low solubility, high adsorption, low log Kow and high molecular weight, and pharmacokinetic data. Field data indicates a lack of bioaccumulation/biomagnification. The UK RAR on the substance reported a risk characterization ratio for fish eating predadors of <0.1.

The results of a 20 week avian reproduction test demonstrate a lack of chronic toxicity, no effects on reproduction, and no detectable egg residues (LOD= 1 mg/kg ww in albumin or yolk). No treatment-related mortality, overt signs of toxicity, or effects on body weight, feed consumption or reproductive parameters at any dietary concentrations tested (160, 400, 1000 ppm a.i.) were observed. Reproductive parameters included number of eggs laid, fertility, embryo viability, hatchability, offspring survival, and egg shell thickness. Hatchling body weight was not affected by parental treatment. The no-observed-effect concentration for northern bobwhite exposed to S8010 in the diet was 1000 ppm a.i. (88.1 mg a.i./kg bw/day), the highest concentration tested. Analysis of egg albumin and yolk collected from birds in the control and 1000 ppm diet groups at weeks 2, 6, 9 and 10 of egg production had no detectable residues of the test substance. These weeks of egg production correspond to 12, 16, 19 and 20 weeks dietary administration of the test substance to adult birds.
