Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

GLP.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: EEC Directive 79/831 Annex V, Part C: Methods for the determination of Ecotoxicity, 5.2. Biotic degradation
GLP compliance:
yes
Oxygen conditions:
aerobic
Inoculum or test system:
activated sludge, domestic, non-adapted
Details on inoculum:
- Initial cell/biomass concentration: Colony forming unit per mL used for the test were 1.1x10³
Duration of test (contact time):
28 d
Initial conc.:
20 mg/L
Based on:
DOC
Parameter followed for biodegradation estimation:
DOC removal
Details on study design:
TEST CONDITIONS
- Composition of medium:
- Test temperature: 22 °C
- Continuous darkness: yes
- Other: Reaction vessels were filled with 900 mL of nutrient solution, inoculated with 0,5 mL/L of the inoculum and coverd with aluminum foile assurinh that the exchange of air between the flask and the surrounding atmosphere was not unduly impeded.

TEST SYSTEM
- Culturing apparatus:
- Number of culture flasks/concentration: 2
- Measuring equipment:
- Details of trap for CO2 and volatile organics if used:
- Other:

SAMPLING
- Sampling frequency: day 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28

CONTROL AND BLANK SYSTEM
- Other: To exclude the decrease of DOC by volatilisation of the test substance, four tests vessels containing nutrient solution and nutrient solution with test substance (ca. 20 mg/L), respectively, but no inoculum, were incubated for 6 days. Growth of microorganisms was prevented by adding 1 mL HgCl2-solution.
Reference substance:
aniline
Parameter:
% degradation (DOC removal)
Value:
95.3
Sampling time:
28 d
Details on results:
A biodegradation about 90 % was observed within the time window of 10 days.
Results with reference substance:
The results are valid as the control chemical yielded a DOC-removal of >70 % within 10 days during the test duration of 28 days, counting from the day that the observed level of biodegradation first exceeded 10 %.

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Interpretation of results:
readily biodegradable

Description of key information

Readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

The biodegradation of 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate was investigated in two different guideline studies. The first study was conducted according to “EEC Directive 79/831 Annex V, Part C: Methods for the determination of Ecotoxicity, 5.2. Biotic degradation” using domestic activated sludge, non-adapted. The result of this investigation showed 95.3% degradation after 28 days passing the 10-day window. A OECD 301E guideline study showed a biodegradation of >95% within 28 days testing sewage, predominantly domestic.
