Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

As key study a test according to OECD guideline 203 using Oryzias latipes as test organism was identified (NITE Japan 2001). The test was probably conducted under GLP though no clear statement is available. As test substance the analogous substance sodium 2-ethylhexanoate was applied which is the product of neutralisation of 2-ethylhexanoic acid with aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. After 96 hours a LC50 > 100 mg/L was estimated, related to the measured concentration.

Furthermore, acute toxicity to fish was investigated in two non GLP acute fish test similar to OECD TG 203 performed by Hoechst AG (1979). The first test revealed a LC50 (96h) of 180 mg/L (nominal) for Oncorhynchus mykiss whereas the same test using Lepomis gibbosus as test species resulted in a LC50 (96h) of 270 mg/L. These results are supported by a non-guideline test (BASF 1977). As test organism the golden orfe Leuciscus idus was used in a static approach. An LC50 (48h) >302 mg/L was estimated, related to the nominal concentration.
