Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The key study of Goodband and Mullee (2010) exposed Daphnia magna for 48 h to 100 mg/L zirconium basic carbonate in a limit test and reported a 48h EC50 > 100 mg/L (nominal) in Daphnia magna (OECD TG 202/ EU method C.2).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In a Klimisch 1 study conducted according to OECD TG 202 / EU method C.2 (Goodband and Mullee, 2010), a saturated solution of zirconium basic carbonate (nominal 100 mg/L) did not induce any immobilisation of Daphnia magna after 48 hours exposure. The EC50 is > 100 mg/L.

In conclusion, at environmentally relevant pH values, zirconium basic carbonate will not cause acute adverse effects to daphnids.
