Description of key information

The density of carbon tetrachloride is reported to be 1.59 g/cm3 at 20°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Relative density at 20C:
1.59

Additional information

Data for several temperatures are available in a peer-reviewed handbook (CRC Handbook, 2009). These values are in line with the density of 1594.7 kg/m3 reported in another handbook at 20 °C (Ullmann's, 2002) and the relative density of 1.59 at 20/4°C found in an old publication (Dreisbach, 1949). Thus the density of the substance is found to be 1.59 g/cm3 at 20°C.
