Additional information

Carbon tetrachloride (CTC) is a colourless organic liquid with a sweetish odour with melting point of -22.62°C and a boiling point of 76.8°C. It has a density of 1.59g/cm3 at 20°C. CTC has a vapour pressure of 12 kPa around 20°C and a viscosity of 1.35 mPa.s at 20°C.

Experience in handling indicates that the substance is not pyrophoric and is not flammable on contact with water. In addition, carbon tetrachloride has no flash point according to a guideline and thus is not classified as flammable. As a consequence, a study on the auto-flammability does not need to be conducted according to REACH annex VII, column 2.

Based on its structure, carbon tetrachloride does not have oxidising properties nor explosive properties.
