Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

There is limited data available on the toxicity of methoxyethanol to algae. One of the two experimental studies available has significant limitations which suggests it could underestimate toxicity. The second study is to a more modern protocola and is reliable, although the available publication is not particularly detailed. QSAR modelling also predicts that methoxyethanol is of low toxicity to algae, which supports the experimental data available, even if the QSAR suggests higher toxicity than the experimental data. These results together, along with the other aquatic toxicity data, are sufficient to judge with confidence that methoxyethanol is of very low toxicity to algae. In this case, the most recent experimental study is used to derive the acute EC50.
