Description of key information

The following studies have been submitted to address the partition coefficient end point:
Walker JA & White DF (2010). Determination of water Solubility and Partition Coefficient (n-OCTANOL/WATER). Testing Laboratory: Harlan Laboratories Limited, Shardlow Business Park, Shardlow, Derbyshire, DE72 2GD, UK. Report Number: 3109/0041. Owner Company: Organo Tin REACH Consortium, c/o ReachCentrum, Avenue E. Van Nieuwenhuyse 6, B-1160, Brussels, BELGIUM
Tsuda et al. (1986) Bioconcentration of butyltin compounds by round crucian carp Toxicol. Environ. Chem. 12:137-143
Walker JA & White DF (2010) has been allocated a Klimisch score of 1 and is considered to be the key study. Tsuda et al. (1986) has been allocated a Klimisch Score of 2.
The partition coefficient of the test item has been determined to be 2.77 x 10ˆ4 at 20.8 ± 0.5°C, log10 Pow 4.44, using the shake-flask method, designed to be compatible with Method 107 of the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 27 July 1995.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
4.44
at the temperature of:
20.8 °C

Additional information

A reliability rating of 1 was assigned to the key study (Walker & Wright, 2010), according to the criteria of Klimisch, 1997 as the study was conducted in accordance with recognised guidelines and GLP.

The following supporting information is also available for this endpoint:

- Tsuda et al. (1986) Bioconcentration of butyltin compounds by round crucian carp Toxicol. Environ. Chem. 12:137-143

This study has been conducted in line with OECD Guideline 107 but there is no information on the GLP status of the study and so it has been allocated a Klimisch score of 2.

Result: The octanol-water partition coefficients (Pow) of organotin compounds including dibutyltin dilaurate was measured three times by flask-shaking method and the log Pow was determined to be 3.12 for dibutyltin dilaurate.
