Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
30 Oct-11 Dec 2012
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: GLP Guideline study
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
other: Method N.1 of United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, 5th revised edition 2009
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Testing was conducted using a procedure designed to be compatible with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures and Method N.1 of United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, Fifth revised edition, 2009.
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks:
or specified in description of method (migrated information)
Remarks on result:
other: Not flammable: The test item does not ignite in the preliminary screening test.

Results

The pile failed to ignite during the 2 minutes that the Bunsen flame was applied.

The result of the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the definitive test.

As a result of which the test item is not classified as a flammable/readily combustible solid.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
other:

Description of key information

non flammable

no pyrophoricity

no flammability on contact with water

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The substance did not ignite in the preliminary screening test in a GLP study similar to UN RTDG Test N.1.

Based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

Based on experimental result the substance is a non flammable solid. It did not ignite in the preliminary screening test in a study similar to UN RTDG Test N.1. Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.
