Description of key information

Taking into account the large amount of data on inhalative and oral toxicity of mammals resulting in long-term DNELs of 100 ppm (308 mg/m³) likelihood of birds getting exposed to concentrations in this magnitude other than in a major accident situation is not expected. Toxicity of diethyl ether through oral route also is not very high (NOAEL in 90d-feeding study to rats is 500 mg/kg bw/day) and does not justify further testing on birds. A testing of birds therefore should be avoided.
