Description of key information

There is no measured data on bioconcentration for dodecanedioic acid available. Based on the measured partition coefficient n-octanol/water (log Kow = 3.2) in the study of Enste-Diefenbach R. (2010), dodecanedioic acid may have a potential for bioaccumulation. However, the BCF was estimated by QSAR (BCFWIN), and the resulting value was 3.16 L/kg wet weight, indicating no potential for bioaccumulation.
Additionally dodecanedioic acid was demonstrated in vivo in rats to be rapidly absorbed fom the gastrointesinal tract. The acid was shown to be introduced into the fatty acid catabolism of the organism and was therefore extensively metabolised. Metabolites are incorporated or metabolised to CO2 (Passi et. al. 1983). According to mammalian toxicity data, dodecanedioic acid is not classified as very toxic (T+), Toxic (T) or harmful (Xn) and does not carry the risk phrases R48, R60, R62, R63 or R64. R48 or R60-R64 present in the classification of the substance. Moreover dodecanedioic acid revealed to be readily biodegradable.
Therefore, for all the reasons stated above, dodecanedioic acid is not expected to accumulate in the environment.
