Justification for type of information:
Eucalyptus globulus oil is a Natural Complex Substance (NCS) and hazard properties are derived from the hazard properties of the main constituents (greater than 10% in the NCS: 1,8-cineol, d/l-limonene and α-pinene). The main constituent do not exhibit a high potential for adsorption in soil (log Kow < 5.0). All constituent are readily biodegradable, they are not expected to persist, to accumulate in soil. The environmental risk assessment was carried out on two constituent cineol 1,8 and alpha pinene. Based on screening procedure with equilibrium partitioning method (EPM), the quantitative risk assessment indicates that the risks are controlled for the soil compartment (PEC/PNEC < 1). Therefore, further toxicity tests to soil macroorganisms are not necessary.
