- At the test group of 10.00 mg/L, 5 fish had died after 48 hours and 10 fish after 72 hours, respectively. At the test group of 21.50 mg/L, all fish had died after 24 hours. The only symptoms observed was tumbling at the test group of 10 mg/L after 48 hours.

All of the studies that determined the acute toxicity of 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate to freshwater fish, derived similar effect values (in the range of 1 - 10 mg/L). The lowest determined effect value of 4.6 mg/L (Russom, 1988) will be used as key value for the chemical safety assessment for freshwater fish. Also data on a saltwater fish species is available. The 96-h LC50 in saltwater species Cyprinodon variegatus was determined to be 17.5 mg/L (Dow, 1978) and will be used key value for the chemical safety assessment for marine water fish.
