Test material

Constituent 1
Reference substance name:
Iron silicate, copper smelting and refining
EC Number:
701-480-0
Cas Number:

IUPAC Name:
Iron silicate, copper smelting and refining
Details on test material:
Oxidation temperature was tested on two representative sample types :
Type I: Slag, Granules, Primary ( Sample 09TT02641)
Type III: Slag, Slow cooled, primary ( Sample 09TT05244)

Sampling and sample preparation was performed according to ECI/REACH C1 Sampling Protocol. The C1 sampling protocol also provides detailed information on the identity of the samples (see IUCLID section 1.4).

Results and discussion

Test results (Oxidising solids)
Key result
Parameter:
other: oxidation temperature
Result:
630 - 800 other: °C
Remarks on result:
other: Based on the TG/DSC measurements, the oxidation starts at the temperature 630 °C for granulated type slags and at temperature ~800 °C for slow cooled type slags. Substance is considered to be non-oxidizing.

Any other information on results incl. tables

During the oxidation tests of the samplewas heated in Al2O3crucible using air atmosphere

Sample Type I ( 09TT02641).

The exothermic peaks in the curve are at the temperature range 630 – 665 °C and 978 – 1059 °C. These peaks indicate oxidation. The mass of this sample starts to increase during last exothermic phenomena

Sample Type III ( 09TT02641).

No exothermic peaks in the curve are found. The mass of the sample starts to increase at the temperature ~800 °C, which indicates some slow oxidation

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
other: no oxidising properties
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
Based on the TG/DSC measurements, the oxidation starts at the temperature 630 °C for granulated type slags and at temperature ~800 °C for slow cooled type slags.
Substance is considered to be non-oxidizing.
The oxidation properties can be excluded based on results from TG/DSC measurements.
Executive summary:

The oxidation properties can be excluded based on results from TG/DSC measurements.

Examination of the mineralogical compositionestablishes that the there are no structural alerts with regard to oxidizing potential of the substance. The substance (mainly containing iron silicate) is also commonly known as in capable of reacting exothermically with a combustible material.
