Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
17-08-2009 to 18-08-2009
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
no
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

During the preliminary screening test, the pile failed to ignite during the two minutes that the Bunsen flame was applied. The negative results of the screening test negated the need to perform the main test.

Interpretation of results:
other: Not classified in accordance with EU criteria.
Conclusions:
The test material has been deemed to be not highly flammable as it failed to ignite during the preliminary screening test.
Executive summary:

The flammability (solids) of the test material was investigated in accordance with the standardised guideline EU Method A.10.

During the preliminary screening test, the pile failed to ignite during the two minutes that the Bunsen flame was applied. The negative results of the screening test negated the need to perform the main test.

The test material has therefore been deemed to be not highly flammable and is not classified in accordance with EU criteria.

Description of key information

Flammability.

The test material has been deemed to be non flammable as it failed to ignite during the preliminary screening test.

Flammability in water.

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, Section 1, the study does not need to be conducted as based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure flammability on contact with water is not to be expected.

Pyrophoricity.

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, Section 1, the study does not need to be conducted as based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure pyrophoric properties are not to be expected.

Additional information

Flammability (solids)

The flammability (solids) of the test material was investigated in accordance with the standardised guideline EU Method A.10. The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

During the preliminary screening test, the pile failed to ignite during the two minutes that the Bunsen flame was applied. The negative results of the screening test negated the need to perform the main test.

The test material has therefore been deemed to be not highly flammable and is not classified in accordance with EU criteria.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to flammability.
