First-aid measures

If inhaled:

Move to fresh air.

If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.

If not breathing, give artificial respiration.

Call a physician or poison control centre immediately.

In case of skin contact:

Wash off with soap and water.

Wash contaminated clothing before re-use.

Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse.

In case of eye contact:

In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.

If easy to do, remove contact lens, if worn.

Call a physician or poison control centre immediately.

If swallowed:

Rinse mouth.

Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water.

Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Do NOT induce vomiting.

Call a physician or poison control centre immediately.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed Symptoms:

- Pneumonia

- Lung oedema

- Shortness of breath

- Suffocation

- Lachrymation

- superficial burning sensation

- Cough

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed Treatment:

Treat symptomatically.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media:

- Dry chemical

- Alcohol-resistant foam

Unsuitable extinguishing media:

- Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Specific hazards during fire-fighting:

- Water may be ineffective.

- The product will float on water and can be reignited on surface water.

Hazardous combustion products:

- Nitrogen oxides (NOx)

- Carbon monoxide

- Nitrosamine

- Ammonia

Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for firefighters:

- Wear an approved positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus in addition to standard fire fighting gear.

Further information:

- Use water spray to cool unopened containers.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Personal precautions:

- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

- Local authorities should be advised if significant spillages cannot be contained.

Environmental precautions

Environmental precautions:

- Avoid release to the environment.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Methods for cleaning up:

- Take measures to prevent the build up of electrostatic charge.

- Contain spillage, soak up with non-combustible absorbent material, (e.g. sand, earth, diatomaceous earth, vermiculite) and transfer to a container for disposal according to local / national regulations (see section 13).

- After cleaning, flush away traces with water.

- Eliminate all ignition sources if safe to do so.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Advice on safe handling:

- Avoid inhalation of vapour or mist.

- Do not get on skin or clothing.

- Do not get in eyes.

- Do not taste or swallow.

- Ensure adequate ventilation.

- Wash thoroughly after handling.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion:

- Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking. Do not use sparking tools.

Hygiene measures:

- Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Requirements for storage areas and containers:

- Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Keep away from heat. Keep in properly labelled containers.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Engineering measures

- Ensure adequate ventilation, especially in confined areas.

Personal protective equipment

Eye protection:

- Tightly fitting safety goggles

- Face-shield

- Hand protection

Remarks:

- Solvent-resistant gloves

- Suitable glove material: Neoprene gloves and Butyl rubber. Protective gloves against cold. The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of EU Directive 89/686/EEC and the standard EN 374 derived from it. The break through time depends amongst other things on the material, the thickness and the type of glove and therefore has to be measured for each case.

A suitable glove is e.g. AlphaTec® 38-514 (Ansell) made of butyl-rubber and a material thickness of 0.35 mm. The exact break through time can be obtained from the protective glove producer.

Skin and body protection:

- Wear suitable protective clothing.

- Complete suit protecting against chemicals

- Antistatic boots

Respiratory protection:

- Use respiratory protection unless adequate local exhaust ventilation is provided or exposure assessment demonstrates that exposures are within recommended exposure guidelines.

Filter type:

- Filter type K

- Self-contained breathing apparatus (EN 133) (in case of higher concentration)

Protective measures:

- Remove respiratory and skin/eye protection only after va-pours have been cleared from the area.

- Ensure that eye flushing systems and safety showers are located close to the working place.

- Use personal protective equipment as required.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity

- Materials containing similar structural groups are normally stable.

Chemical stability

- Stable under normal conditions.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

Hazardous reactions:

- No dangerous reaction known under conditions of normal use.

Conditions to avoid

Conditions to avoid:

- Heat, flames and sparks.

- Take precautionary measures against static discharges.

Incompatible materials

Materials to avoid:

- Zinc

- Copper

- Aluminium

- Mercury

- Strong acids and oxidizing agents

- Halogenated hydrocarbons

Hazardous decomposition products

- Nitrogen oxides (NOx)

- Carbon monoxide

- Nitrosamine

- Ammonia

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Product:

- In accordance with local and national regulations.

- Do not dispose of waste into sewer.

Contaminated packaging:

- In accordance with local and national regulations.

- The hazard and precautionary statements displayed on the label also apply to any residues left in the container.
