Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Classification & Labelling & PBT assessment

PBT assessment

Currently viewing:

Administrative data

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Persistence Assessment

Plant Sterols does not persist in the environment, as the substance is readily biodegradable.

Bioaccumulation Assessment

The wider literature, e.g. BCFBAF (EPA, 2000), indicates that substances with very high log Kowvalues (>8) do not bioaccumulate. The BCFBAF model has not been used in this case. In view of the biochemical processes to which the substance is subject, the concept of bioaccumulation does not apply. Organisms are exposed in the natural environment to relatively high concentrations of the constituents of Plant Sterols and therefore are adapted to the presence of these substances.

Toxicity Assessment

No potential for toxic effects was observed in any of the in vitro or in vivo studies.

Summary and overall conclusions on PBT or vPvB properties

Overall conclusion:

The registration substance does not meet the criteria for PBT or vPvB.
