Description of key information
The acute toxicity of the test substance was tested on fish, invertebrated, algae and microorganisms.
All the studies were reliable and conducted following the appropriated OECD or national guidelines by GLP standards.
Acute toxciity to the guppies (Poecilia reticulata) showed a 96 hour LC50 of 280 mg/L and NOEC for mortality and other effects was 250 mg/L (Groeneveld et al, 1992).
Short-term toxicity test to the water flea, Daphnia magna, resulted on an estimated 48 hour EC50 of 204 mg/L (Hisgen, 2003).
The toxicity to the algae Desmodesmus subspicatus examined in a static 72 -hour toxicity resulted in 72 -hour ErC50 (growth rate), EbC50 (integrated biomass) of 2616 and 1217 mg/L, respectively. NOEC for for both endpoints was 256 mg/l (Werner, 2003).
Finally, Pseudomonas putida microbial inhibition was tested. Significant inhibition of cell multiplication occurred at calculated test concentrations of 63 mg/L and higher. The EC50 was calculated to be 1260 mg/L and the corresponding. NOEC was 32 mg/L (Jansen & van den Berg, 1992).
Additional information
Long-term toxicity studies to aquatic organisms are not required as the substance is readily biodegradable indicating that long-term exposure and toxicity is not expected in the aquatic environment. Furthermore, according to Annex IX column 2 of REGULATION (EC) No 1907/2006, long-term toxicity aqautic study are not required as the CSA shows low/no risk to the environment.
