Description of key information

A long-term study in terrestrial plants, althought having some restrictions can be used for assessment. This study yields a NOEC of 2 mg/kg wwt.. Recalcution into dry weight and normalisation with the organic matter content (1.5%) according to REACH Guidance Document R10 gives a NOEC of 4 mg/kg d.w..

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Long-term EC10, LC10 or NOEC for terrestrial plants:
4 mg/kg soil dw

Additional information

The phytotoxicity of triethylphosphate was investigated following foliar or soil application to sorghum-sudangrass, tomato or glossy privet (vegetative growth). The effects on seedling emergence were also assessed on sorghum-sudangrass, tomato and cucumber. Evidence of phytotoxicity (growth and seedling emergence) was seen in this study only at the highest application rate of 40000 mg/m2 (soil or foliar). No effects were seen at an application rate of 400 mg/m2.

This study has some limitations (the number of species and endpoints is low). Additionally a high spacing factor of 100 was used. Nevertheless a clear NOEC can be derived.
